Mini Mermaid Running Club

A Fishy Girl

We are excited to announce the Mini Mermaid Running Club (Vine Hill PTA endorsed) is coming to you!

Mini Mermaid Running Club (MMRC), est. 2009, is an after-school running club for elementary school-aged girls, K- 5. Our mission is to teach every girl to lead a healthy life by listening to her inner voice, valuing her uniqueness, learning to love movement and discovering the finish line is just the beginning.

MMRC focuses on teaching girls to realize their full potential. Through games, journal activities, team building, and physical fitness, girls are taught the tools necessary to be strong and confident and to see these things inside themselves. Each practice/lesson is aimed at helping every girl to see how amazing she is, regardless of her circumstances.

Each practice last 1.5 hours (days and times to be determined). Through this structured six week program, girls train to run a local 5k while learning about movement, self-advocacy, healthy living and nutrition.

The cost of the program will be $150. With our One4One model, for each paying girl, we provide the program at no cost to a girl at another school who otherwise could not afford it.

Your school, according to our records falls under our One4One structure.

Our unique One4One programming allows for girls, regardless of their financial situation to participate in the Mini Mermaid Running Club:

  • Using the federal guidelines for families who qualify for Free or Reduced Lunch (FORL) or in other words are at or below the poverty line, schools that have a 40% or greater population of qualifying students are able to participate in the program at no cost.

  • If a school has between 30% and 39% or less of its student population qualifying for FORL, the fee is $75 per girl. (These funds can come from the girls or through fundraising)

  • If a school has 29% or less of its student population qualifying for FORL, the cost of MMRC is $150 per girl. The fee of $150 allows  MMRC to provide a scholarship for another girl at a school with greater than 40% of their population at or below the poverty line, thereby ensuring one Mini Mermaid access for every one Mini Mermaid paying.  The One4One program allows us to continue to provide our programming for free at schools with low income, underrepresented populations. Within this structure, we realize there may be girls at schools qualified for the One4One and may not be able to afford the fees, which is why we offer need based scholarship for any girl interested in participating.

Program includes:

12 sessions each approximately 1.5 hours

Mini Mermaid T-shirt

Mini Mermaid Medal

Journal for each girl
