Thank you Cub Scout Pack 604

The Cub Scout Pack 604 decommission the Vine Hill School American Flag which hangs in front of our school. This flag had become worn and ripped over the years and it desperately needed to be changed.  The Cub Scouts are one of the few organizations authorized to decommission a flag.  Today Cub Pack 604 decommissioned our old flag and presented Vine Hill Elementary with a new American Flag.  This flag was proudly raised in front of Vine Hill School at our Friday Flag Ceremony.

2016/2017 PARENT SURVEY

We welcome parent support and each year invite you to observe the upcoming grade level.  The goal of classroom observations is to give you a sense about what the program looks like.  We’ve chosen to have the observation days in May so that parents can see what happens on a regular basis, before the end of the school year.

Please follow these guidelines when visiting classroom:

  1. Sign in at the office. I will meet with everyone before going over to the classrooms.

  2. Plan to spend no more than 10 minutes in each classroom.  This should give you a feel for the curriculum and class culture.

  3. Do not engage the students or teacher, or other adults, in conversation.

We expect to have similar class sizes and may have some combination classrooms. Some teachers will be changing grade levels and we may also have some new staff members.

We do not accept requests for specific teachers.  However we value your input regarding classroom environment.

Please do not bring siblings.

Thank you for your participation and cooperation.

The Power of ONE

Soren Bennick's The Power of One™

A bullying-proofing performance for elementary school children

The Power of One is a series of skits presented by actors who use boxes, colors, and masks to vividly portray what bullying is, what can be done about it, and how every child has the power of one, the power to report and deal with bullying when they see it. The Power of One:

  • Explains the roles in bullying: Bully, Target, and Bystander

  • Shows vivid examples of different types of bullying: Physical, Verbal, Exclusion, and Cyber bullying

  • Alerts children that Targets need help and intervention

  • Encourages students not to be bystanders

  • Emphasizes the need for individual action to make the community a safer, better place

  • Refers children to parents, adults, and teachers for further assistance and instruction

The set for the Power of One consists of a series of boxes that fit inside each other like a Russian egg. Each box is a different color: green, purple, yellow, and white, representing the different roles in the bullying process.

Following the color scheme of the boxes, the actors put on a green mask when they play the Bully, a purple mask when they play the Target, and a yellow mask for the Bystander.

The highlight of the performance is when a volunteer from the audience looks into the Power of One box (which contains a mirror) and sees himself/herself!

This leads to the audience taking the Power of One anti-bullying oath and the conclusion of the performance.

The Power of One Oath

Car Free First Friday - Bike To School Rolling School Bus

The Active Transportation Committee of Scotts Valley wants to show you and your kids how to get to school safely by bike. In fact, we want everyone in Scotts Valley to feel safe travelling by bike, and consider going CAR FREE on the first Friday of every month!

Why Bike??

*Good for your body & brain!

*Teaches safe biking skills

*Lowers traffic congestion & pollution near schools

Participate in one of Two Rolling School Bus Routes:

  1. Sky Park
  2. S. Navarra cul de sac where it meets Green Hills Rd.

Bike “bus” rolls at 7:20am sharp, so please arrive by 7:15am to turn in your waiver and receive a cool helmet sticker to join the ride! SVPD will help. Parents bring your kids to a bus stop to sign a waiver and join the ride, if you want. There will be coffee at school! See the maps on the back and our Facebook Page.
